We are four students from Babson College studying the movements for progressive change focusing on the 17th through the 21th century. The course shows that throughout all of these movements, food has been at the center of the civil rights movement in one way or the other. Throughout our course we explore the way progressive organizations raise funds necessary to pay for their programs, how striking workers fed their families, how organizations gathered and strategized, and important food-related contributions to the movements. Our blog will focus on developing these three questions: Who were the black panthers? What mobilized them? What role did food play in their movement?
